Meals on Wheels says thanks

Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties is grateful to volunteers and sponsors, and will be proving it in March with its third annual BBQ fundraiser.
2008’s Meals on Wheels benefit is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, at the Loma Linda Events Pavilion in Rockett at 6 p.m. The benefit offers an evening of good food catered by the BBQ Pit, entertainment by the Texas Hat Band, as well as an opportunity to raise funds for the organization.
“Your support of this year’s BBQ Benefit will greatly assist us in delivering over 88,000 meals to the poorest and frailest people we have ever served in the last 7 years,” said Amy Jackson of the local Meals on Wheels. “You can be assured that your sponsorship will help us provide a greater quality of life for those we serve. This year the monies raised will be more important than ever.”
Jackson added that Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties “anticipate over 200 persons from all of our communities to take part in this year’s event.”
She said she’s looking forward to the event because of the level of awareness it brings to the work the group is carrying out.
Last year’s barbecue fundraiser “exceeded all expectations,” said Marion Reynolds, Board member and event Chairperson. “The support shown, from donors, volunteers, sponsors and everyone involved was truly incredible!”
More than 200 volunteers and sponsors attended the 2007 benefit. Attendees enjoyed a Chuck wagon dinner catered by the BBQ Pit, and entertainment by the award-winning Wade Hatton and the Texas Hat Band.
In addition, a silent auction helped raise more money for the organization with donated prizes such as an Angel Fire trip, Southwest Airlines tickets, sporting event tickets, and antiques.
Top Sponsors, underwriting the event were Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie, Home Loan Corporation, Holcim Midlothian Cement Plant, John Lain Heating & Air Conditioning, Ellis County Newspaper Network, Citizens National Bank, and Mr. & Mrs. Richard Dormier.
