Cinderella pageant a crowning success

Ennis’ Sixth Grade Center venue for Ellis County event
Over 40 contestants from ages 5 months to 19 years vied Saturday for the privilege of wearing 2008 Ellis County Cinderella crowns. The event was held at the Sixth Grade Center in Ennis and drew a large and enthusiastic crowd. Winners and title holders will represent Ellis County in the 2008 Texas State Cinderella Scholarship Pageant to be held in College Station in June.
Overall winners include: Haley Lynn Wilson, Infant division; Liliana Garcia, Baby division; Parker Reese, Tiny Tot division; Amanda Higginbotham, Tot division; Lindsay Haley, Miniature Miss division; Megan May, Miss division; Candace Gillian, Teen division, and Michelle Hanson, Woman division. The new royalty received crowns, banners, trophies, long stemmed roses, and their entry fees paid to the Texas state finals.
Overall winners were crowned by 2007 Ellis County winners Faith Jones and Morgan Nichols, who were presented flower bouquets after they took their final walks.
Talent and Tot Personality winners include: Marissa Strnad, Baby division; Sheridan Garbe, Tot division; Bibiana Jimenez, Miniature Miss division; and Chelsea Merritt, Miss division. Talent winners received crowns, banners, trophies and their entry fees paid to the state competition.
Beauty winners include: Mekenzie Kazee, Baby division, Divine Mendez, Tiny Tot division; Mia Martinez, Tot division;
Landry Nutt, Miniature Miss division; Olivia Liska, Miss division; and Hannah Lockhart, Teen division. These beauty winners received crowns, banners, trophies, and their entry fees paid to the state contest.
In the Prince Charming competition, Preston Peyton was chosen as Overall winner, and William Gilley was selected Most Handsome. These young men received trophies, banners and medallions, along with their entries paid to the state competition.
Photogenic winners include: Karina Halpin, Tot division; and Jalani Tieuel, Teen division. These young ladies also received crowns, banners, trophies and will have their entry fees paid to the state finals.
Because the tot division was so large, the judges selected a Top Five as a special honor.
Alternates to the crown include Kenadie Kazee, 1st Alternate; Corinne Terry, 2nd Alternate; Mia Martinez, 3rd Alternate, and Sheridan Garbe, 4th Alternate. These young ladies received trophies and invitations to attend the state finals.
Other winners included Krista Vasquez, 1st alternate to Tot Personality, Iesha Smith, 2nd alternate to Tot Personality, Angela Springer, 3rd alternate to Tot Personality; Faith Patak, 1st Alternate to Beauty, Melissa McMillan, 2nd Alternate to Beauty; Kaelin McMillan, 1st alternate to Photogenic, and Courtney McMillan, 2nd alternate to Photogenic. The girls all received trophies and an invitation to the state finals in June.
Honor roll contestants, who have previously won titles and were just competing for judges’ comments, included Hannah Alexander, Makenna Stracener, Miranda Greene, Jordan Noack, Rylie McKinney, Delaney Walker, Faith Jones, Kendyl Robbins, and Jennifer McBride.
Special Royalty and guests included Sarah Toups, 2008 International Cinderella Miss, Amber Blocker, 2007-8 Texas State Miss, Kyla Drake, 2007-8 Texas State Miniature Miss; Khloe Berry, 2007-8 Texas State Tot, Braydee Frederick, 2007-8 Texas State Ambassador; Molli Greene, 2007-8 Texas State Miniature Miss Talent Winner, Maci Greene, 2007-8 Texas State Photogenic winner, and Myla Greene, 2007-8 Texas State Infant Photogenic Winner and Cover Baby.
Local sponsors Ennis Flower Shop and Amelia Ann Florists provided beautiful arm bouquets for the event, and the Ennis Daily News assisted with publicity.
The pageant was directed by Mindi Greene and Shirley Knapp, sho were assisted by Kelli Harvey, Texas State Cinderella Scholarship director.
Judges included Sharon Toups, Renee Sparkman, Layni Pennell, and Tina Jones.
