Don’t delay in registering to vote

The clock is ticking and the deadline to register to vote in the May 10 school bond election is getting closer every day.
Voters in the Ennis Independent School District will make a very important decision on that day when they vote on a $48.9 million bond package to meet our growing district’s needs. In order to be eligible to vote on May 10, voters must register by April 10. We strongly encourage all of our readers to make sure they, their family and friends are registered by that time.
If the school bond passes, our district’s facilities needs should be met for the next 7 to 10 years based on current growth trends. If the bond does not pass, we will face continued overcrowding and future construction will only cost taxpayers more money. As proposed, the bond package will result in about $71 in additional annual taxes on the averaged priced home in the district. The average home in the district is valued at $88,860.
This is an extremely important election for this community and one in which we should all participate. It would be irresponsible to simply sit this one out.
We ask our readers to please make sure they encourage as many people as possible to register to vote by April 10 . Get the facts about the bond issue, make an informed decision and then follow that up by casting a ballot on May 10.
