Dressed to thrill

Fashion show benefiting Chamber to be staged Sat.
Chic is the byword for the occasion that will grace La Galleria this Saturday, March 29, when the Springtime Opulence Luncheon and Style Show introduces the season’s latest fashions while raising funds for the Ennis Chamber of Commerce.
The boutique Sweet ‘N Sassy, located at La Galleria, is providing the ladies’ wear and accessories to be modeled by local beauties.
Store manager Jan Johnson said she’s looking forward to the noon event.
“We’ve been excited about this for the past eight months,” she said. “It’s the first time we’ve been able to do something for the community like this, and it gives people an opportunity to come in and see what’s available in the store and have a nice lunch.”
Sweet ‘N Sassy, a branch of the Corsicana-based shop founded by Lou Nagy 15 years ago, opened at La Galleria in March last year. Word of mouth by a number of fashionable Ennis women dressed by Nagy, including First Lady Nancy Thomas and her mother-in-law Maggie Thomas, inspired La Galleria owner Isabelle Tant to invite the owner and her manager to open an extension of their popular Corsicana emporium in the heart of downtown Ennis.
The Sweet ‘N Sassy shop in La Galleria is now one of the most stylish in town, including among its clients some of Ennis’ best-dressed women, including Jo Ann Cody, Sandra Wakefield and Harriett Adams.
Situated in the historic Rowe Building, built in 1905 by noted Texas architect Hix McCanless, La Galleria was formerly owned by the McCorvey family and purchased in 2006 by Bob and Isabella Tant who renovated the structure as a restaurant, bakery, studio and gallery.
Isabella, who presides as hostess for guests of wedding receptions, anniversaries and other private parties held in her restaurant, is chair of the fashion show committee and said she is proud to provide the entertainment as well as the gourmet lunch at Saturday’s exhibition.
“There’s a young musician, Kyle Guerran, who will be playing the piano,” Tant said. “He’s a student of Anna Lee Davis and is very talented.”
Sweet ‘N Sassy models for the Springtime Opulence Luncheon and Style Show include Amy Womack, Mary Pollan, Laurie Mah, Melba Smith, Remma Glass, Glenda Quinn, Ann Woods and Gayle Henson.
Among garment lines to be featured are designs by Joseph Rebhoff, Conrad C, Simon Chang, Foxcroft, Ann Trinity, Samuel Dong and David Brooks. Shoes are by Brighton and Vanili.
Tickets are $30. Door prizes will be furnished by Sweet ‘N Sassy. All proceeds benefit the Ennis Chamber of Commerce.
For more information call the Chamber at 972-878-2625.
