Arrest made in Travis principal robbery

Ennis police have reported one of the suspects involved in the armed robbery of Travis Elementary School Principal Steve Huff was recently arrested in Fort Smith, Ark.
Fort Smith law enforcement reported to Ennis police that Jack Hamilton, 21, of Ennis was in their custody. Ennis officers traveled to Arkansas to transfer Hamilton to Texas for questioning regarding the Nov. 12 robbery.
Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson said the night of the robbery at approximately 11 p.m. Huff was leaving the campus on the west side of the building two black men approached him at gunpoint and demanded he hand over his money. Huff gave the suspects his wallet, car keys and cell phone. Huff suffered no injuries from the attack.
Hopson stated police asked the Ennis Independent School District not to deactivate the cell phone. Phone records were checked and statements were taken from people who spoke with the person making calls from the stolen phone. According to Hopson, Hamilton was identified as one of the suspects and an arrest warrant was obtained.
Hamilton was transported to the Ennis Police Department March 26 and is charged with aggravated robbery, a 2nd degree felony.
The second suspect has yet to be identified. Hopson said anyone with information regarding this case should contact police at 875-4462.
