Don’t miss chance to vote early

Early voting in local elections began Monday and will continue through May 6. We hope our readers will take advantage of this opportunity to cast their ballots early and encourage others to do the same.
Our community’s track record for voter turnout is discouraging and we hope to see that change with this election. In the past, only a small percentage of eligible voters have turned out to vote in any given election and that is unfortunate. The right and privilege of voting shouldn’t be taken lightly. It’s a responsibility we must exercise if our community is to realize its full potential.
The people of Ennis are caring and committed and have a well-deserved reputation for generosity. We would also like to see our citizens earn a reputation for being more involved in civic affairs and local government. Letting our voices be heard at the polls would be a big step in that direction.
Every election is important and this one is certainly no different. The vast majority of us simply have no excuse for not voting. The early voting period should ensure that we have plenty of opportunities to cast a ballot, even if we aren’t able to make it to the polls on election day.
If you haven’t yet voted, do so as soon as possible and if you have voted, congratulations on doing your duty as a citizen. Now join us in getting the word out to others. Let’s show that we care about our community and the important role each of us has to play in local government.
