Country Thunder tries making amends to fans

Ticket holders are promised refunds for cancelled concert
Ticket holders for the ill-fated Country Thunder concert event that was to be held this weekend have been notified via e-mail that the organization is working on refunding their money and will notify them with more information in upcoming weeks.
For fans like Kristin Adams that doesn’t make the situation any less upsetting.
“I went to the concert last year and the Saturday show was great, so I was excited about going again this year,” Adams said. “I had the whole weekend planned. We got rained out last year and instead of giving us our money back then, they gave discounts on concert tickets for this year so I was happy with that. Now if they don’t refund our money I will be out for last year and this year. It is very disappointing, and it definitely discourages me from buying tickets again if they ever come back to Ellis County.”
The e-mail that was sent to ticket holders doesn’t smooth things over for Lauren Zhanel either.
“The e-mail that we received told us Country Thunder was looking into giving refunds for the tickets and that they would know more in the next several weeks as they talked with the credit card companies to handle the charge backs,” she said. “My mom bought the tickets for me last year for my birthday and when we got rained out, we got discounted tickets for this year and now to have the concert cancelled a week before the show with no real reason as to why is very disappointing.”
The press release that was sent out by the Country Thunder organization blamed “a depressed economy, low ticket sales and the financial outcome of last year’s event after catastrophic rainfall and the cancellation of 70 percent of the artists” as the reasons for cancelling this year’s concert series.
For Zhanel that explanation does nothing to make her feel better about not having the weekend she has had planned.
“I think it would be a little easier to take if they had announced it earlier or they seemed a little more concerned about all of us ticket holders,” she said. “I am just lucky that unlike other people I’ve heard of I didn’t rent an RV to spend the weekend in because those people have lost their deposits and are still waiting like the rest of us to be reimbursed for the concert tickets.”
When Country Thunder General Manager Glenn Starnes was contacted yesterday regarding what could be done to aid disappointed fans he said the company was working on the issue but wasn’t releasing any information regarding the possibility of reimbursing ticket holders.
Immediately following the announcement last week that the Texas concert was being cancelled, the concert information link was removed from Country Thunder’s official Website www.countrythunder.com and customers were directed to the phone number for the company’s service center. At that time, however, representatives at the center stated they did not know what would be done and ticket holders would have to call in to find out more information.
The lack of communication has Ellis County residents speculating as to the possibility of the organization returning next year. KBEC radio station General Manager Ken Roberts is one of those with doubts about the concert coming back any time soon.
“Cancelling the concert was a shock and it is pretty obvious that after two years of disappointments, Country Thunder will not try again in Ellis County,” he said.
For more information regarding ticket reimbursement, ticket holders are encouraged to call the customer service center at 269-279-6960.
