Texas Motorplex to host TV show, rock concert July 4

Race track venue for fireworks show, other holiday attractions
Race fans and music lovers alike are gearing up for Independence Day.
Ennis’ Texas Motorplex is hosting this July 4th the Pullin Television Network program Pinks & Pinks: All Out.
The series airs on the Speed Channel 1320x, featuring regional drag racing and concerts. The Ennis track is the latest venue for the show that combines racing with a festival atmosphere, a midway and car show and a classic rock concert to wrap up the evening.
The band Grand Funk Railroad is appearing at the Motorplex before a much anticipated fireworks finale.
Ennis Tourism Director Gina Rokas said the entertainment is original and will no doubt attract many to the track on July 4.
“This is a totally different event than what used to happen at the Motorplex and I am very excited they are bringing a show like this to Ennis,” she said.
“I am especially glad they are having a fireworks show because we don’t really have one in Ennis so it really is a great addition.”
The day’s activities start at 9 a.m. when the gates open. A car show/manufacturer’s cup competition will be held from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and qualifying sessions for the races will be held at noon and again at 2 p.m. The car show awards and manufacturer’s cup will be presented at 6 p.m. and the racing awards ceremony takes place at 8 p.m.
Grand Funk Railroad takes the stage at 9 p.m. and fireworks start after the concert.
Grand Funk Railroad, formed in 1969, is made up of Don Brewer, Mel Schacher, Max Carl, Bruce Kulick and Tim Cashion.
The band is known for such hits as “We’re an American Band” and “The Locomotion.”
Tickets for the concert are $20 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 years old with children five and under attending for free.
