Lions Club sets goals for year

New Pres. Ben Fry approves group’s 2008-09 projects
The Ennis Noon Lions Club held its annual workshop on July 16 at the Ennis Country Club where new President Ben Fry presided over the meeting and the Lions 2008-2009 projects list was approved.
Some of the projects include collecting used eye glasses, providing new eyeglasses and eye exams for students and adults who qualify, eight scholarships, Boys & Girls Little League teams, Boys and Girls Club, Ennis Habitat for Humanity, A-Cross, Child Advocacy, Relay for Life, Bluebonnet Relays Track Meet, District 2X-1 speech, poster, diabetic and outstanding youth contests, nine international, state and district charities and other club projects.
The club also plans to volunteer to help organize the annual Christmas Parade and Polka Festival Parade. The “Walk in the Park” program will again provide clean-up at the Lions City Park.
The Ennis Noon Lions Club is the largest civic club in the city and will be soon celebrate its 88th anniversary.
Officers for the coming year are Gary Hayden as 1st Vice President, Jodie Honza as 2nd Vice President, Alan Clark as 3rd Vice President, Brandi Anthony as 4th Vice President and R. E. (Bob) Taylor again as Secretary/Treasurer.
The six directors are Jack Armstrong, Bill Woody, Amy Womack, Cody Herndon, Charlie Honza and Susan Kluk.
Matt Keever will serve as Chairman of the Membership Committee and will be assisted by Jeannette Patak and Billy Dodson.
Serving as chairmen of other committees will be Bill Smith as Tail Twister, Miles Strunc as Lion Tamer, Pianist/Song Leader Robert Brazier and Becky Lucas will serve as Chairman of the Lions Club’s contests.
Special Events Chairmen will be Jonathan Cromwell for parades, Rick Hoffman for Sports Extravaganza, Amy Womack for a magic show, Kevin Six for Lions Camp workday and the “Walk in the Park” committee will be chaired by Jessie DeLeon and assisted by Mike Nero and Evelyn Herndon.
Past President of the Ennis Noon Lions Club is Kevin Six and the Immediate Past District 2X-1 Governor is Wallace Roberts.
The Lions Club Motto is “We serve.”
The group meets Wednesday at noon at the Ennis Country Club.
