Cashiers accused of selling alcohol to minors

Ennis police, others arrest local store employees in sting
The Ennis Police Department made multiple arrests Friday during a sting operation while working with other law enforcement agencies to find local businesses selling alcohol to minors.
Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson, along with other Ennis officers, agents of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, Ellis County District Attorney’s office representatives and Midlothian police officers, sent minors into ten stores around the city to find cashiers who were willing to sell alcohol to the undercover juveniles. The operation, which has been in the works for approximately two months, garnered three arrests with each suspect receiving a $1,500 bond for their release.
The suspects arrested included Amy Collier, 39, Muhammad Mardini, 40, and Mai Qasem, 22, all of Ennis. They were each charged with sale of alcohol to a minor.
The TABC agents did not verify whether the businesses the suspects worked for would receive any sort of penalty for the sale of alcohol to minors. The three locations where arrests were made were S & S Drive In at 209 W. Crockett St., Speedy Mart at 2108 W. Ennis Ave. and Ennis Westend at 2200 Lake Bardwell Drive.
