Golf tournaments are a popular fundraiser

They are fighting for different causes but they both have a similar idea.
Two articles in today’s Ennis Daily News relate to golf tournament fundraisers. The Boon family is hosting one tournament and the money raised goes toward cancer research while the other tournament – a Meals on Wheels driven event – is the organization’s own way of raising funds for its customers’ meals. Both are worthy causes, which puts local golfers and businesses in a tough spot to choose which one they will support. Hopefully they will be able to support both and ensure that each is a successful event.
Obviously there is no way to say one charity is better than the other, because they are equally admirable ventures.
The Meals on Wheels 21st Annual Golf Benefit will be held Sept. 11 at Hidden Creek Golf Course in Burleson. The Boon’s two-day tourney – the Cancer Benefit Golf Tournament – will be played Sept. 13-14 closer to home at the Ennis Country Club.
For many of you it isn’t a question of whether you will play, only one of where you will play. Or maybe as a sponsor you have to decide whether you can support both, or whether you must choose one or the other. Whatever the answer is, we simply congratulate those doing their part to help these charitable games.
These events give people a chance to have a good time while spending money to help feed the elderly or support the cause of cancer research, and that’s why so many groups choose golf tournaments as fundraisers. It’s because they give everyone involved a sense of pride for helping others while at the same time hitting the links, having fun and enjoying some laughs with friends.
