Fraud alert

Home repair scam reported
Local residents looking to make some home repairs should be warned, a group of men who swindled an Alma homeowner are in the area looking for the easy dollar.
Det. Lt. Ron Roark said he was contacted by the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office regarding two men working under the names of Brumley and Harrin cheating people out of their money. According to Roark, the men tell a person they can paint the roof with a waterproof paint or asphalt the driveway for a small amount of money. The painting job costs about $300 and the asphalt work is about $500.
“They’ll tell the person they had to do extra work and then charge them about $5,000,” Roark said.
The paint on the roof is in all actuality a water-based paint and washes off. The new asphalt being laid turns out to just be oil that lasts a short time.
“These men are targeting the elderly,” Roark said. “People need to be aware that if they hit in Alma today then they’ll be here next.”
The men have already been spotted working in the Lake Tom Sawyer Subdivision in Alma. They are reportedly traveling in a 2005 silver Ford truck.
Anyone with information that could assist in finding these men should contact Det. Lt. Ron Roark at 972-875-4462 or the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office at 972-825-4901.
