United Way plans campaign kickoff

Luncheon next Thursday marks start of annual fund-raising effort
If you’re trying to reach someone next Thursday at lunchtime your best bet is to look at the Greater Ennis United Way’s Annual Kick-Off Luncheon at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
This year’s theme for the Sept. 4 barbecue event is “Welcome to Fall: A Good Time For Giving.” Although the fund-raising campaign enables the Greater Ennis United Way to allocate funds to all of its agencies, the Gingerbread House Children’s Advocacy Center is hosting the kick-off luncheon.
“John Wyckoff is the Executive Director of the Gingerbread House and they are doing an outstanding job,” Elizabeth Fulton, executive director of the Greater Ennis United Way, said of this year’s host organization. “They are extremely organized. One of our agencies take it each year, runs with it and does a wonderful job.”
This year’s fund-raising goal for the Greater Ennis United Way is to raise $315,000. The money received from the campaign will be split up into 12 pieces for the affiliated agencies partnered with the Greater Ennis United Way.
“The Greater Ennis United Way (has) the right to solicit money only in Ennis,” Fulton said. “Our goal is to raise community resources and distribute them in 12 equal ways among the affiliated agencies.”
Fulton said the affiliated agencies must meet a number of requirements before receiving money from the Greater Ennis United Way. This includes being a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, having a board and bylaws, having finances in order and serving the needs of Ennis for at least two years.
“They are outstanding agencies doing great missionary work,” Fulton said of the 12 affiliated agencies.
Three Ennis companies will be honored at the luncheon with the Dana Hoffman Community Impact Award for recognition of outstanding service and support of the Greater Ennis United Way.
Brisket, potato salad, cobbler, iced tea and more will be served and tickets are $7.50 a plate at the door. The luncheon will be held at noon in the Tabernacle Baptist Church’s Family Life Center at 1200 Country Club Road.
Fulton asks people wishing to attend RSVP by Aug. 28 at 972-351-2060.
