Show your spirit at homecoming tonight

It’s that time of year when parents and Ennis High School alumni dress in their maroon and white, and current students put on the traditional mums in honor of the big day.
It’s homecoming tonight and the Ennis Lions football team is taking on Mesquite Horn.
After losing last year’s battle between the two teams Ennis fans are hoping for redemption at the one game all year every team hopes to win. A win can lift an entire city’s spirits and a loss can have fans asking, “Why can’t it just be a rule that the team celebrating homecoming always gets the win?”
Hopes and school spirit are at a peak on the night of homecoming. Regardless of the opponent, a win on this night is extra special. The fans are in on the act, too, and we suspect they cheer just a little louder at the homecoming game.
It is an all-day affair at the school with female students wearing their special-made gifts from the boys. The mums seem to get bigger and bigger every year. Hopefully that’s just a sign of the growing school spirit and not an attempt to outdo each other.
We’re glad Ennis has such a high regard for its high school football team, because that makes homecoming that much more of a momentous occasion. The cheers from fans as the Lions take the field just might be heard all across the city and a win tonight could be mistaken as a state championship if you judge by the cheers alone heard coming from inside the stadium.
Everyone who is taking part in homecoming in some way, enjoy yourself and show our opponents how classy Ennis can be, win or lose. Even if you’re not the parent of a student or a graduate of Ennis High School, be sure to attend this game to show your Ennis spirit.
Go Lions!
