Crash sends one to hospital

Drakas Bailey of Bardwell was flown to a hospital after possibly breaking his leg in an accident Friday afternoon on Lake Bardwell Drive near the Hwy. 287 Bypass.
According to patrol officer Curtis Farmer, at about 3 p.m. Bailey 30, was driving a gold Chevy Cavalier westbound on Lake Bardwell Drive when a green Camaro with three passengers headed eastbound attempted to turn left into the Exxon parking lot causing Bailey to drive head on into the passenger side of the Camaro. Bailey’s Cavalier made a 180-degree spin coming to rest facing oncoming traffic and the Camaro skidded off the road into the grass, where it came to rest with the passenger door ripped off.
The Camaro’s occupants included driver Justin Serrata, front-seat passenger Amanda Laza and rear passenger Jared Aparicia. All three had lacerations to their heads and arms.
Police believe Bailey was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.
Bailey said an 18-wheeler was in front of Serrata’s vehicle, hindering his view of the oncoming car when he attempted to make the left turn.
