WatchDog on the prowl

Navarro College implements new WatchDog Alert System
Navarro College implemented a new emergency notification system, which has been named the WatchDog Alert System, for its four campuses. The new system notifies students, faculty and staff via e-mail, text message and voice telephone messages regarding emergency situations that might develop on campus(es), such as weather-related, power outage, police or fire emergency, catastrophe and exposure to hazardous materials.
Emergency alerts will be sent when situations might require unscheduled closure or evacuation of the college campus(es) or facilities on the campus(es). These alerts are sent by designated college administrators or other college officials, and can be received by students, faculty and staff in seconds. The new system will help warn students and employees not to come to campus(es) when there is an emergency and will help those already on campus follow the necessary precautions and evacuation procedures should an emergency occur.
To receive the emergency alerts, students, faculty and staff must subscribe to the system online from NC’s WebAdvisor page by clicking on the WebAdvisor icon located on Navarro College’s Web site, www.navarrocollege.edu. The subscription is free, but if applicable, some participants could be charged text messaging fees by their cell phone provider.
Participants may include up to six telephone/cell numbers and two e-mail addresses for notification purposes. Changes to telephone, cell and e-mail can be made whenever the need arises by logging on to WebAdvisor and following the directions. Contact information provided to Navarro College is kept private.
A new tower has also been constructed on the Corsicana campus to help alert residence halls students of emergencies by utilizing a loudspeaker system. In the event of a weather-related or other emergency, college officials can activate the loudspeaker to warn residents of possible danger and to take cover.
Parents, spouses and significant others of Navarro College students, faculty and staff can also be notified if their phone number(s) is included as one of the six allowed for each participant.
