Fighting family charged with forgery

After obtaining a warrant for Guadalupe Garza of Ennis for allegedly abusing his common-law wife, Debra Martin, Ennis police reported that both Garza and Martin had allegedly been passing stolen checks from Martin’s sister.
According to Det. Sgt. Dorinda Clark, Garza, 50, and Martin, 41, had written at least three checks for a total of $350 from the female suspect’s sister’s bank account. Clark said between Dec. 24 and the early part of January, a check in the amount of $150 and two for $100 each were cashed in the couple’s name.
Before this was determined however, Clark said Martin came to the police department Sunday and said she wanted to file assault charges on Garza for hitting and kicking her in the body. Martin showed bruises she received from the incident. The following day a warrant was obtained for Garza and he was arrested Tuesday.
While Garza was in police custody, Clark said they learned of the check forgeries and when Martin visited the police department wanting to drop the assault charges against Garza, she was also taken into custody.
Garza is facing two counts of forgery for the two checks he wrote as well as assault causing bodily injury. Martin is being charged with forgery.
