Miss Teen Ellis County crowned

Midlothian student wins local pageant, headed to San Antonio
Officials for the Miss Teen Texas International Pageant have crowned a winner for Miss Teen Ellis County 2009.
The winner, Austyn Brittany Rapp, is a Midlothian resident and a junior at Midlothian High School. She will represent the greater Ellis County area at the 2009 Miss Teen Texas International Pageant in San Antonio to be held March 22.
Rapp will be competing for more than $15,000 in cash and prizes. If she wins Miss Teen Texas 2009, she will have a chance to proceed to the Miss Teen International Competition in July.
Rapp has participated in many school and extra curricular activities, and has accomplished much through these organizations. She is a varsity cheerleader and two-time All-American and Top All-American Cheerleader. She is a member of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Students Taking Action Not Drugs (STAND) and Student Council. Rapp is the president of the Chess Club and a member of the Making It Count Student Advisory Committee. She is an Honor Roll student, competes on the varsity track team and is a two time District Champion in women’s pole vault. She is also a state qualifier for pole vault and holds the women’s pole vault record at Midlothian High School.
Rapp is the daughter of Brady and Lonnie Rapp. Rapp said she is excited about getting chosen as Miss Teen Ellis County.
“I am really glad I got chosen to be Miss Teen Ellis County 2009 because it gives me the chance to promote my platform which is no teen smoking,” Rapp said. “I am excited to get the message out there.”
The Miss Teen International Pageant system recognizes young women for their ambition, accomplishments and desire to make a difference in their communities. Throughout her year as Miss Teen Ellis County 2009, Rapp will not only compete for the state crown, but she will also be available to make appearances, attend special presentations and assist with civic and nonprofit oriented projects. Rapp said she is excited about competing in the Miss Teen Texas International Pageant.
“It’s going to be so much fun to meet a group of girls who share the same interests as me in trying to better their communities,” she said.
