Palmer superintendent retires

Palmer ISD’s boss announces retirement, gives district ample time to find replacement
The Palmer Independent School District Board of Trustees formally accepted the resignation of Superintendent Alan R. Oakley, effective Dec. 31, at their meeting Monday evening.
Oakley came to Palmer ISD in July of 2000 as assistant principal at Palmer Middle School and was promoted to principal the following year. He remained in that position until January of 2004 when he was selected to be the superintendent of Milford ISD.
“I had a brief, but very positive experience at Milford,” Oakley said. “We completed a badly needed building renovation during my tenure there and they were a pleasure to work with.”
In September of 2005, Oakley was selected to return to Palmer as the superintendent of schools.
“The Palmer Board has been excellent to work with and has allowed me to put the right people in the right places,” Oakley said. “We continue to make strides academically and we have turned the corner financially. Our staff and the Board of Trustees deserve much of the credit for the success Palmer has experienced.”
Oakley plans to spend time with his wife and take time to relax once his retirement begins at the end of this year.
“My wife, Julie, has recently retired from education as well and I am looking forward to a little slower pace,” Oakley said. “I wanted to give the Board plenty of time to consider all of their options with regard to the selection of the new Superintendent.”
The Board will be considering the timetable and search process in the upcoming meetings.
