Family needs assistance

When a family suffers the loss of a loved one it is traumatic no matter what the circumstances. But that loss is made even more intense when it involves the death of a young person who served in the military.
Army Specialist Aaron Latimer’s death in 2006 was marked by friends and family all over Ellis County, but now his family has the opportunity to join other families in Alaska to accept the Alaska Decoration of Honor on Aaron’s behalf.
The ceremony will be held May 23, but the Latimer’s have until April 15 to make arrangements and gather the funds necessary to cover the expense of the trip. As with most families during these difficult economic times, the Latimers need the help of the community to make this trip a reality.
An account has been set up at Ennis State Bank in the names of Richard and Betty Latimer for anyone who wishes to make donations to help them accept their son’s award and honor his memory.
The Ennis community has a long history of supporting the families of soldiers and caring for each other in times of need. We encourage everyone who can to help the Latimers achieve their goal of accepting their son’s award and adding to the honor of his memory.
We know that anyone who has ever lost a loved one will be able to sympathize with the Latimers and understand their quest to attend the ceremony. The estimated cost of expenses is roughly $2,000, but if everyone does what they can, we know the goal will be reached in no time.
The best part of being in a community like Ennis is that no one has to do everything on their own and we know we will see yet another example of the community doing what they can to assist the Latimer family in their time of need.
