Seniors find friends, fun at Golden Circle

For local senior citizens, living on a fixed income can be a struggle, especially with the cost of living rising more and more each day.
However, one place in town that still offers services like entertainment and a hot meal for a nominal fee has been doing so for many years with no plans to change. The Golden Circle Activity Center, located at 1700 N. Floyd St., is a facility that offers fellowship, entertainment and a support system for an age group that sometimes gets left out. Center director Mary Nell Glaspy says that no matter what else changes in the community, seniors can always be sure to find friendly faces and fun times waiting for them at the center.
“Our center is a unique place in that the membership is made up of people 60 years old or older and it only costs $5 a year,” she said. “For that fee they can come five days a week and play cards or dominoes or participate in Bible studies as well as visit and share memories with the other members. Also, for an additional $2 a day they can eat a hot meal without worrying about cooking for themselves. We have a good time here and we encourage more people to come out and take advantage of it.”
