Bluebonnets offer chance to shine

Anyone who was around for last year’s bluebonnet season, probably remembers that the blooms were not at their best in 2008. This year Bluebonnet Trails organizers are optimistic that 2009 will be a better season, and it seems we’re already seeing more of the Bluebonnet City’s signature flowers along roadsides and in area fields. We expect the best is yet to come.
The Annual Bluebonnet Trails and the festival that comes with it are a highpoint in Ennis’ tourism calendar, along with the National Polka Festival, which follows in May. Both of these events bring thousands of tourists to our town and offer us a chance to show off what makes this such a great place to live and work.
Mother Nature has the final word when it comes to the number of wildflowers that greet tourists arriving in our community, but the residents play just as important a role in making them feel welcome. While nature rolls out a blue carpet of blooms, we should be rolling out the red carpet to welcome them to town and make sure they have a nice stay while they’re here.
Ennis and the surrounding areas are full of friendly, helpful people and this is their time to shine. Whether it’s recommending local restaurants and businesses to our visitors or allowing them to park and take pictures of the flowers on your property, it all goes a long way toward leaving a good impression. Each of us can do our part to reach out to our guests and make them feel at home. Hopefully, the folks who come to town for the bluebonnets in April, will come back later for the friendly people and hospitality that can be found here all year long.
