Donate blood to help Chandler

On the front page of Sunday’s newspaper we learned of the struggle Chandler Mach and her family face as they deal with Chandler’s recent diagnosis of leukemia. Our hearts go out to the entire family who has no doubt been barraged with a mixture of emotions as they come to terms with the changes that have come with the news of the illness.
In the family’s effort to be proactive and positive about the journey they must all face, they have organized a blood drive with Carter Blood Care to be held April 5 in the parking lot of Wal-Mart from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Any donations given will be a credit to Chandler’s account at the hospital so that if she is in need of blood or platelets the donations will be counted before the total is added to the cost of her care. Her family is very determined to have the drive so that even if the blood donated does not match Chandler’s type, another child will benefit from the donation.
We encourage everyone to mark the date for the blood drive on your calendars and make a point to show your support for the Mach family during this time. The one thing that can be said of Ennis that makes us stand out in comparison to other cities is that this community genuinely cares for the well being of their neighbors and that quality is what we hope will draw everyone out to give blood in Chandler’s name.
Dealing with a serious illness is never an easy task and to watch an otherwise healthy child have to submit to a course of treatment to keep her well is hard to imagine, so we hope that the community does what they do best and lends their support for the family.
At times like this, it makes you want to count your blessings and be thankful for what you have. We hope that everyone counts among their greatest blessings living in a community where genuine concerned is shared for each other’s families.
