Stifling defense propels Team Senior to victory

Class of 2009 takes Powder Puff title once again
Defense wins championships, and on Saturday it vaulted Team Senior to the Ennis High title in the Powder Puff football game against Team Junior.
The Senior defense only gave up 37-total yards and no first downs after halftime, while forcing four turnovers to boot. Mix in another MVP-caliber performance from Senior running back Lauren Hodges and the veteran squad had itself a 28-0 triumph in Lion Memorial Stadium, as well as a showdown with Waxahachie later this week.
While Team Senior only led 6-0 at halftime, Hodges broke a 65-yard touchdown run to open the second half and the Seniors scored twice in the final 3:34 after interceptions set up short fields.
“I didn’t do a great job calling [offensive] plays in the first half, but the team really picked it up in the second half,” said Senior coach Colby Threet.
“Lauren was a beast out there and played great again this year. She knew she had to come up big and she stepped it up.
“Defensively, we were just outstanding. I really hope we can carry the way we played over to the Waxahachie game and stay hungry to win again.”
