Festival a hit for another year

Walking through downtown and driving the trails during the Bluebonnet Festival weekend is one of the joys of working at the Ennis Daily News every year.
No matter what the weather or how large or small the bluebonnets are blooming, the citizens of Ennis and tourists interested in the April festival most assuredly crowed the streets of our town with a great turnout.
Ennis Tourism Director Gina Rokas and the rest of the staff and volunteers at the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and the Ennis Garden Club who work so hard during this time of year to make the festival a memorable event deserve a huge amount of praise. They give each person who arrives to get directions to the trails a warm greeting that gives tourists and locals alike just a glimpse into the friendly atmosphere they can expect during the festival.
Talking with Rokas, she certainly wasn’t upset about the rainy weather Ennis has seen the past few days. It has only helped the bluebonnets flourish. She said the cool, cloudy skies on Saturday didn’t deter guests from traveling the trails either.
While walking along NW. Main Street perusing the items for sale from each vendor, whether it be food, a petting zoo, inflatable slides or homemade knick knacks, the upbeat from the north end of the street can’t help but get you in the spirit of the festival. And if that’s not enough, the camaraderie and closeness everyone shows as they enjoy the day makes us proud to call this community our home. Be sure to visit the downtown festival Sunday before it’s over for another year.
