Double down for a good cause

In a year of changes that have forced the St. John Catholic Church community to rally and become stronger from the troubles of the past, comes the news that the tradition of the annual Las Vegas Night fund-raiser will still take place as planned.
The youth program at the church that has been going strong continues to flourish and the group has chosen to keep the casino-themed event as a way to raise funds to continue their efforts in the Life Teen program. We are very encouraged by the efforts put forth by the group and are pleased to see that the dark times from the school closure last year have not hindered the progress of what is important, which is continuing the efforts to educate the youth about the importance of their religion.
The event will also help a local organization, as a portion of the proceeds will be given to the KC Hall, which is hosting the event this year. The organizers of the event are planning to rotate the host hall every year, so not only will the St. John youth benefit from the event, but also other members of the community. The situation is a win-win for everyone involved and we hope the community does their best to support the event whether it is from donations of auction items or tickets sold to try their hand at winning prizes. One of the most remarkable things about the community is the way they rally behind individuals or groups when it is needed. We hope things continue to be that way for the youth program at the church for a long time to come.
For more information on the May 9th event, contact Chris Mummert at 972-878-8336. Tickets for the event may be purchased at the church office.
