Lady Lion steps up down home stretch

Zhanel helps Ennis get back to softball playoffs
The final games of Brittani Zhanel’s Lady Lion career mean more to her than most people will ever know.
For many standout high school athletes, their senior year is a precursor to a sporting journey at the collegiate level. With Brittani, she’s approaching the end of something that’s been a huge part of her life since kindergarten when t-ball entered the picture.
Zhanel will attend Texas A&M next fall as a student, not an athlete. Fortunately, the queen of the circle for Lady Lion softball is fine with that decision. She’s enjoying every moment as Ennis prepares for its playoff clash with Forney next weekend.
For Brittani, bat and glove has always been a family thing. While her mother Tammy played softball, Brittani’s father Gene played baseball – just like her granddad. Her brother played baseball, and as he grew older Brittani took the reigns as the top Zhanel on the diamond.
“The year before I moved to kid pitch, my dad asked me if I ever wanted to be a pitcher,” Brittani said.
