Incident leads to son’s arrest

A 28-year-old man was brought up on three charges ranging from assault and drug possession to evading arrest.
According to the police report, on Thursday at 1:40 a.m. officers received a call in reference to a disturbance at 1006 N. Sherman St. The complainant said his son had broken into the home and threatened him. The man met police, including Sgt. Joe Sifuentes and officers David Dodd, Don Hudson and Alan Eddins, and said he had attempted to lock the front door to keep his son outside, but the suspect punched the glass in the door, resulting in a cut on his hand.
Upon entering the complainant’s home, Hudson approached the suspect, Rodney Roach of Ennis, and told him to stay where he was, but Roach ran out the back door and was able to evade capture by jumping over a neighboring fence. Dodd and Eddins chased after Roach but were not able to locate him in the neighborhood.
Later in the day the father phoned police again to tell them Roach had returned. Sifuentes, Eddins and Hudson entered the residence and went upstairs where the suspect was lying on a bed. According to the report, Roach refused to cooperate during his arrest and officers struggled to detain him.
When speaking with the complainant again, the man told police Roach had threatened to burn the house down. The father feared for his and his family’s lives.
While inventorying Roach’s property at the police department following his arrest, police found a small green plastic baggie inside a pack of cigarettes belonging to the suspect. Closer inspection revealed a small amount of crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamines to be inside the bag.
Roach was charged with assault, evading arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
