Band continues success at UIL

It seems during every school year, no matter what season or which month it is, the junior high and high school bands are announcing their accomplishments at one competition or another.
Year in and year out it is the same old song and dance – or at least the same old song – when it comes to the quality of the multiple bands Ennis puts together.
On today’s front page there is another example of how impressive our school district’s band and its directors really are. The Ennis Junior High Symphonic 1 Band earned sweepstakes award at the UIL Concert and Sight-reading competition.
Not only is it a big accomplishment that the band has won this award for its superior rating in both concert and sight-reading performance, but it is just another accolade the music directors can add to their already stellar resume when it comes to establishing a solid, cohesive unit of band members.
It says a lot about the character of these kids when band director Steven Bunch calls his band a second family. Their accomplishments – and infrequent failures – can be directly attributed to how well the band members work together and act like a real team. There are a lot of other groups – athletic, academic, business-related, young and old – that could learn a lot from the Ennis Junior High Symphonic 1 Band about being a team.
We at the Ennis Daily News applaud the Symphonic 1 Band for what you have done at UIL and hope you continue your run of success for the rest of this school year – and beyond.
