Always think of our troops

When Kenneth Wayne “Bo” Hackney III heard the horrible news that his friend was killed in Iraq only five days into his mission, he did something that would likely be the complete opposite of most of us. He enlisted in the Air Force.
Not having been in active duty, fighting an enemy thousands of miles away from our homes, we at the Ennis Daily News cannot begin to understand the sacrifice of what the countless number of people just like Hackney have given up to fight for the freedoms all Americans – sometimes – unwittingly take for granted. Hackney felt compelled by the loss of his friend to take up arms and fight for his home country.
It is easy to remember our veterans when holidays like July 4th, Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day roll around, but luckily we have stories like Hackney’s to remind us on days that don’t require banks and/or schools to close down that we should always be thankful for what our servicemen and women are currently doing.
Keep the men and women in our armed services in your prayers and the next time a project like Treats for Troops comes along, consider sending some items in a care package to let them know we are thinking of them. If you see a military person who is on leave or is about to be sent off, let them know how appreciative you are for what they do.
With the threat of bullets whizzing by and bombs going off, our troops need to be reminded of what they are fighting for and how much we love them for it.
