Make an effort, feed the hungry
When was the last time you contacted your state government representative concerning an issue that was important to you? Have you ever done such a thing and been a part of the democratic process by letting your voice be heard in more of a way than just voting?
Well if you’ve never done such a thing or the last time you did call your representative was eons ago, let us urge you to take a long look at House Bill 1622 and make a difference when it comes to getting additional funding for the local food pantry Helping Hands.
House Bill 1622 would provide the North Texas Food Bank with $20 million over the course of two years that would trickle down to smaller food banks throughout the metroplex, including Ennis’ Helping Hands. The money is to be used to help feed children in Texas healthy and nutritious meals.
The Ennis Daily News staff urges everyone to make a phone call to Rep. Jim Pitts or send his office an e-mail letting him know you support the bill. Pitts is on the appropriations committee that will be reviewing the bill now that the Texas House of Representatives and Senate approved it.
A quick phone conversation or a few minutes to send an e-mail is a small thing to ask from you so hungry children can be fed.
To let your voice be heard regarding House Bill 1622, contact Rep. Jim Pitts’ office by calling the district office at 972-938-9392, the capitol office at 512-463-0516 or the campaign office at 972-938-0187. To e-mail Pitts, visit the legislature’s Web site at www.house.state.tx.us/members.
