EISD names superintendent pick

After deliberating in a closed session for 30 minutes Wednesday, the Ennis ISD School Board chose Barbara Qualls as the lone finalist for the superintendent’s position.
She is likely the first woman ever selected for the job.
The selection ends a months-long process of replacing outgoing EISD Superintendent Eddie Dunn, who told the board in January he would be retiring in June.
The board chose Qualls out of 43 applicants from 10 different states. From the 43 applicants, the board picked six candidates to interview. After the interviews, the six were narrowed down to three, and Qualls was chosen from the three.
The board did not name the identities of the other two finalists — Texas law does not require the board to disclose the names of finalists in superintendent searches.
“We made quite an effort in finding the right person for the job of superintendent of Ennis ISD,” said School Board President Mack Boyd. “A lot of different people wanted to come here. Turns out Ennis is a place people want to be.”
Qualls is currently Lago Vista ISD superintendent, a position she has held since 2001. Before working in Lago Vista, she served as superintendent of Grapeland ISD from 1999 until 2001.
