Quick Pantry boss booked in booze sales

Law enforcement arrested the manager of Quick Pantry, located at 2201 W. Ennis Ave., on Friday on four counts of selling alcohol to minors.
Iqbale E. Lasi, 48, of Ennis, was arrested in the case. His bond was set at $1,000 on each charge, totaling $4,000.
After receiving information last week from a concerned mother regarding alcohol being sold to her daughter at Quick Pantry, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, said Chief Deputy Dennis Brearley.
The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Taskforce, along with Ennis police, surveyed the business and reported the sale of alcohol to five minors on three different occasions. Following each sale, law enforcement deputies checked the identity of the purchaser to verify they were minors and that they did not possess a fake identity card to deceive the clerk.
Brearley said once the officers had enough visual evidence the clerk was making sales to minors, deputies entered the business in street clothes and observed a male who appeared to be younger than the legal drinking age approach the counter with a 30-pack of beer. When the clerk, who is also the manager of the business, failed to ask for any identification to verify the purchaser’s age, the sheriff’s deputies made their identities known and stopped the transaction.
