Texans see big hikes at pump

Gasoline prices have been on a steady climb over recent weeks in Texas and across the nation, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
The average price of a gallon of unleaded regular now costs $2.55 in Texas and that’s an increase of more than 40 cents from last month. Nationally, gasoline is $2.69 a gallon.
In Ennis, prices averaged $2.56 per gallon Friday. At that time, the lowest price per gallon of self-serve unleaded was found at EZ Mart (Kaufman at Creechville) and Murphy USA (Wal-Mart) at $2.46 per gallon (with a Murphy USA card at the Wal-Mart gas station). In January 2007, the average price per gallon was $2.07. In August 2008, motorists paid $3.48 on average for a gallon of gas in the city limits.
The report showed the most expensive gas is in the El Paso area, where currently a gallon of regular unleaded markets. This includes:
• The price of oil increasing on world markets last month, including the NYMEX exchange, which was trading in the $58 dollar a barrel range. That’s up more than $8 a barrel since April. Gasoline futures were also up from $1.39 to $1.68 a gallon, an increase of 29 cents. Traders were moving gas and oil prices upward, anticipating the economy would be improving and demand would increase during the summer and fall.
