‘Books are filled with gold’

Featured magician trumpets the virtues of reading
Todd McKinney’s Tuesday magic show at the Ennis Public Library wasn’t just about tricks that involve rabbits and top hats, but also about what he said were in the books at the library.
“You’re going to hear some funny stories, you’re going to see some cool magic and you’re going to have a great time at the Ennis Public Library,” McKinney told the kids.
“Remember, you can’t judge a book by its cover. Every book is a magic book when you take the time to check it out. Books are filled with gold. They are filled with treasure inside.”
McKinney’s performance at the library summer reading program “Libraries: Deep in the Heart of Texas,” displayed plenty of magic and laughs in his one-hour show, “Texas Treasures.”
His book-themed activities kept the show educational, but McKinney’s rubber-faced expressions and different voices kept the kids smiling.
McKinney helped the children understand how important reading and the public library are.
