Disaster training offered at Ennis fire station

The Red Cross is offering volunteers the opportunity to train for disaster services in Ellis County.
The first workshop, called “Fulfilling Our Mission,” is set from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Ennis Fire Station No. 2, located at 901 Martin Luther King Drive. The second event, the “Disaster Action Team Workshop,” will be from 6-9 p.m. July 6-7 at the fire station.
Shelly Campbell, Red Cross Emergency Service Specialist said “Fulfilling Our Mission” is a basic, entry-level instructor-led course, which introduces potential disaster volunteers and members of other local agencies to the role of the Red Cross in preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies and disasters. The course will enable individual volunteers to provide information to other community agencies on Red Cross work and possible partnership in preparation for and response to a disaster.
Campbell said the purpose of this course is to enable participants to translate their care and compassion into community action, through a uniform message. The participants will be able to assess how to use their skills and abilities to strengthen the capacity of both the community and the Red Cross to better serve people affected by a disaster. They will understand the mission of the Red Cross, the principles and values that support the mission and the expected behaviors of Red Cross volunteers and employees in the conduct of that mission and then will be given the next steps.
