Chamber’s role expands

The Ennis Chamber of Commerce’s role in the community cannot be understated, especially during a period of economic distress like the one we find ourselves struggling with.
With reports heralding woes like unemployment increasing and profits shrinking, businesspeople are getting palpably more tense in their operation and decision-making.
The chamber, which provides a support structure and community ties to its members, as well as significant influence working in the interest of the city of Ennis, has to constantly monitor these issues and adapt to address them in the best possible way.
Our local chamber has programs like its Leadership Ennis outreach effort that helps connect oft-busy and sometimes-isolated businesspeople and the community in which they carve out their livelihoods.
Jeannette Patak, the CEO of the local chamber, plays a critical role in the chamber’s position and efficiency moving forward in today’s economic climate, and she is making herself stand out.
The chamber head recently completed a nonprofit leadership training course that helps position her to pursue a Certified Chamber Executive credential.
She understands that the outlook for business is changing rapidly and pointed to the training she received as a way of arming herself with more tools to help encourage and promote small startups as well as further relationships with big corporations.
A strong pat on the back also goes out to Patak for successfully navigating and completing the program in half of the prescribed time — two years instead of the typical four.
Experienced leadership continues to be extremely important for Ennis, as the city’s ability to attract and retain the industry that has been its lifeblood grows. Cities around us are taking notice of our talent for it, and industries are giving the city’s ability to sell itself the nod.
We expect the chamber’s role in the community’s growth to continue to grow, as well, and with strong and trained leadership, the possibilities are encouraging.
