Chamber preps for annual auction

Ennis luminaries will be front and center Aug. 8 at the Ennis Chamber of Commerce’s 26th Annual Auction, named “Hollywood: A Night at the Oscars.”
“We encourage people to come in costumes, but it’s not required,” Chamber CEO and President Jeannette Patak said. “You’ll see some come casual and then others are in suits. We just want everyone to come and have a good time.”
The auction features items ranging from gift certificates and trips to furniture and lawn equipment. Patak said the auction is not just a good time for community members to come out and mingle, but it also helps support 50-60 percent of the chamber’s annual budget.
“We’re a membership-based organization, but a large portion of our budget comes from other activities,” Patak said. “The auction is a big part of that.”
The money raised each year at the auction helps to promote Ennis through advertising that the chamber is a part of, as well as providing services such as maps and relocation guides for newcomers at no charge.
“A lot of chambers will charge for these kinds of things, but we give out the maps for free, which promotes local businesses,” Patak said.
The money also aids the retail and residential task force by through marketing brochures that go out to different companies in order to promote Ennis.
