Wildcats gear up for district in Grandview

Good Time Charlies trying to keep rolling
The Good Time Charlies Wildcats were clearly the best freshman division squad in the Ennis Girls Softball Association this year, but now it’s time for the ladies in red to see what they can do at the next level.
On Monday in Grandview, the Wildcats will begin play in the TTAS district tourney. Coach Don Farmer’s squad went 11-1 in the regular season and followed it up with a 3-0 mark in the city playoffs. Farmer doesn’t coach like a drill sergeant and he believes it was a primary factor to his team piling up victories.
“I think having fun was the biggest key to our success and the fact that all the girls got along,” he said.
“We didn’t have any problems in the dugout and everybody worked together as a team.”
When asked about the Wildcats’ main improvement over the course of the season, Farmer focused on his team’s improved patience at the plate with every girl gaining a good understanding of the strike zone.
“We also seem to have a different hero from one game to the next, so there aren’t a couple of players trying to carry us,” he said.
