Area districts analyze ratings

Ferris ISD’s highest state-rated school, McDonald Elementary, has missed federal adequate yearly progress standards.
McDonald Elementary was classified as Exemplary by the state, but was also the only school in FISD to miss AYP. This is due to the passing rate of students taking modified TAKS tests, which is not figured into the state’s rating system. FISD Superintendent Mike Bodine said the district is appealing the rating.

FISD, which was classified as Academically Acceptable, fell just shy of achieving the Recognized rating, said Bodine. He said that all the schools in the district have made progress, and Ferris High School achieved the Recognized rating for the first time in many years. Last year, the high school was classified as Academically Acceptable.
