County OKs new budget

After holding a public hearing to discuss the 2009-10 budget, the Ellis County Commissioners’ Court voted to adopt the proposed budget at their Monday meeting.
During the public hearing, the court received only positive feedback. Dan Davis, vice chair of the Ellis County Conservatives, expressed his approval of the budget to the court.
“Thank you for the fiscal restraint used in this budget,” Davis said. “Thank you for your hard work. I know it wasn’t easy.”
The budget comes in at a little over $79 million, which is a 20 percent decrease from last year’s of $99 million, said Ellis County Auditor Mike Navarro. This is in part because the majority of the costs associated with a 2007 bond-funded project were accounted for in last year’s budget. While all departments were encouraged to ask for smaller budgets this year, no positions were cut, he said.
