New law bars cell phone use in school zones

Drivers should keep their eyes on the road and fingers off their phone as a new state law requires drivers to communicate hands-free while passing through school zones.
Ennis Police Chief John Erisman said local police are on the lookout for violators of the law — House Bill No. 55 in the recent session of the Texas Legislature — that will go into effect Tuesday.
The law makes it illegal to use a wireless communication device while operating a motor vehicle in a school zone. Violators could face a $50 fine.
