Eighth-grader gets backup in fight against leukemia

When Carolyn Schlebach found an opportunity to help a young girl in need, she jumped at the chance.
As a regular at the Ennis Waffle House, Schlebach got to know Irene Cardona, a waitress at the restaurant. Cardona had waited on Schlebach and her husband for about three years when Cardona got the news her daughter, Bevanna, had been diagnosed with leukemia.
This happened in January, and when Irene Cardona told Schlebach, Schlebach let her know that she would do whatever she could for Bevanna.
