Lion cross-country gearing up for district meet

Ennis cross-country competitors are all too aware of how disappointing the 2008 16-4A meet in Cleburne was for the entire Lion program, but that was last year.
Ennis has performed much better during the 2009 season on both the boys’ and girls’ sides, and so the expectations are understandably higher for the upcoming district meet as well. On Wednesday at 10 a.m., the 16-4A meet will get underway in Midlothian.

“It’s not an especially hard course, but it has a few hills and the runners will be on their own with no coaching for a substantial part of it — 12-14 minutes for the guys and 6-7 minutes for the girls,” said coach Lonnie Redning of the district course.

“It will take some mental toughness on the part of our young runners. This course is a lot more difficult than last year’s district course in Cleburne, which was flat and made it easy for coaching at about every half-mile.”
