Gain a friend, help the SPCA this holiday

The holidays are a great time to add a new member to the family.
The Ellis County SPCA is always in need of adoptive homes for the animals that are brought to find shelter there — whether they are found or given up, they deserve a home just as much as the pedigreed animals we can find at pet stores.
It’s a great alternative to the prices we might end up paying at pet stores out of the area and it helps to lighten the load at the SPCA, which is a great organization that needs volunteers and funding support as much as it needs homes for the animals that are waiting for you to reach out with a warm heart.

It’s even possible you might find that purebred animal that you’re had your heart set on, but even if you don’t, the mixed-breed pets that are available through the county shelter are just as deserving of love.

Without the goodness of the community, these animals will disappear as overcrowding and unmet needs stretch the shelter’s resources thin.
There’s almost no greater gift idea, either, for a young child or lonely adult — even the largest families can share a little more by adopting a loving animal.

We’d definitely like to encourage those of you who have as of yet skipped the joy of pet ownership. As much as you may fear the inconvenience or responsibility of caring for another life, there is indescribable joy and a feeling of companionship that can’t be replaced in the life of a loving pet owner.

So, think hard about whether your stretched holiday budget could use a little relief when it comes time to give Jimmy or Jane a gift “better than last year’s.” Giving them a cat or dog to help ease them into the world of responsibility or to meet the desire for companionship that tugs at their heart may be the best gift you could ever give.
