Palmer Bulldogs encounter on-court adversity

Palmer Bulldog basketball has enjoyed the opportunity to play on their home court only twice this year.
Last week, they found themselves on the road playing the 2A Mildred Eagles and participating in a tournament in Venus where the Bulldogs took on two 3A teams — the Venus Bulldogs and the Castleberry Lions — along with the 4A North Side Steers.

Palmer went 1-3 on the week against the difficult slate. The Bulldogs’ lone win came versus North Side 44-34, leaving the Steers winless on the season. They lost to Mildred by the slimmest of margins last Tuesday 41-40, while in the tournament this past weekend Palmer was defeated by Venus 48-39 and Castleberry 62-53.

Against the Eagles, Taylor Smeltzer led the Bulldogs in scoring and rebounds with 11 and 13 respectively. Also contributing in those categories were freshman point guard Tyler Lowe with eight points, Zach Hobbs with nine rebounds and Heath Koop with eight rebounds.
