3 Ennis stores snagged in sweep

A multi-agency group swept the county Dec. 11 and made four cases for illegal alcohol sales — three in Ennis — and at least one case for drugs.
Members of the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, Constable offices from Precinct 2,3 and 4 and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission worked on the sweep.

The additional personnel divided into three areas of concentration.

One was responsible for checking the areas of reported multiple thefts and burglaries and to assist the normally scheduled patrol units. The second was responsible for spot checks in establishments serving alcohol and the third was responsible for checking to see if employees at businesses selling alcohol for off premise consumption was selling to minors.

The enhanced patrol team made several traffic stops and calls for service.

Ellis County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dennis Brearley said the task force made cases at the Shell Station on U.S. 287 at Plainview Road between Waxahachie and Midlothian and the HEB in Ennis, as well as the Chevron and Shell stations at SH 34 and Interstate 45. Those four cases came from checks made at 19 establishments countywide.

Cases on those four are being referred to the Ellis County and District Attorney for prosecution. At least one arrest was made for marijuana and a stolen vehicle from Farmers Branch was recovered.
