Police apprehend possible gun smuggler

Ennis police have arrested an Ennis resident on assault charges, but have contacted federal authorities in regards to the possibility that the prisoner is a gun smuggler for Mexico, according to Det. Lt. Ron Roark.
Officer Rodney Rickman was dispatched to the 100 block of E. Crockett St. in reference to a woman’s concern about her sister being held against her will inside a residence by the suspect. Rickman located both women when he arrived and discovered the victim had been assaulted. Rickman reported while arresting the suspect he discovered a cache of guns inside the house.
Roark said there were rifles, pistols, ammunition and knives stored in the home.
According to Roark, a confidential informant told police the guns were meant for delivery into Mexico, which led police to contact the ATF and Bureau of Immigration.
A similar incident took place approximately two years ago, according to Roark, where the complainant was assaulted and guns were found that were intended for smuggling. The guns are still in possession of Ennis police and will be turned over to the ATF along with the new evidence.
Roark and Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson are investigating the case and Officer Dorinda Clark assisted in examining the victim following the incident.
Gustavo Giron, 44, of Ennis is being charged with assault with bodily injury-family violence and sexual assault.
