Carver students get a taste of American art

To help introduce children to the world of art, students in the Head Start program and at Carver Early Childhood Center created their own works of art based on famous works by American artists in a program called “A Head Start on Picturing America.”
Thursday evening, parents were invited to the campus to see the students’ art on display for “A Night at the Museum.” After walking through the “gallery,” art demonstrations were held in some of the Carver classrooms.

“Our whole purpose was to introduce the children to art, because a lot of them don’t get to go to museums,” said Portia Lewis, Head Start director at Carver.
