Drug discounts worth the work

The county’s effort to get involved in the Coast2Coast prescription program is something that the uninsured and underinsured need to know about.
Counties across the nation take part in the National Association of Counties’ prescription program, and the Coast2Coast initiative mirrors with greater savings passed on to the individual. Residents can pick up a card that offers significant savings — even to those with prescription coverage if their private insurance doesn’t cover certain drugs. It’s also free to use.

You just can’t beat free. Except in the case of Coast2Coast, where Ellis County will receive a royalty on a per-prescription-filled basis.

Ellis County is going to make money because of negotiating an agreement with Coast2Coast that helps those unable to afford medical prescriptions buy the drugs they need. That’s good business for us.

Officials expect residents of our county to save tens of thousands just for being card-carrying members of Coast2Coast and using the prescription discounts in the coming months.

It’s a perfect stopgap for those of us carrying private insurance plans with smaller businesses and in smaller insurance groups, as well. All it takes is a trip to the Internet to sign up.

Facts about the Coast2Coast Rx County Card:
